Raleigh Jaycees Board Meeting – 6/23/09

 

Attendees:  Michael McKnight, Liz Gutierrez, Jennifer James, Mel Taylor, Deidre Albert, Khaner Walker, Danny Miller, Linnell Compton, Karen Sadler, Shira Easley, Teresa Nichols, Neph Bailey, Ali Houchin, Paul Hoover, Carter Pettibone, Kris Montgomery

 

Award Nominations for the month were held

 

Teresa Nichols provided NC Jaycee Award information.  These awards consist of Jaycee of Semester and Family of the Year. 

 

Ways and Means update (Ali Houchin) – thanks Michael and Carter for attention to documents; Fourth of July Turkey Shoot coming up – there may be some interest in Fall Turkey Shoot chair, but that is still to be determined, only 1 shirt this year; PONY – opening ceremonies is coming along, internal/external manpower going well, everything is right inline, sign up for shifts; Turkey Shoot – most of the committee is finalized; 2^nd committee meetings on July 2^nd to discuss final theme; Haunt Con report was sent out; Shira provided more ideas the committee wanted to adopt this year (develop history, develop website, do 2 haunts, 5 year plan for themes, props, location, give free tickets to various public places and community at large, start each night with chants, co-op marketing with other orgs and haunts, scare middle folks, awards each night), Shira will provide more information electronically.

 

Individual Development update (Karen Sadler) – Volleyball is great!  First Mystery Trip is this weekend; Red, White, Blue picnic is July 12, Professional Seminar is July 13, Speak Up/Write Up interest for year-end; next month – expect 3-4 new CPGs; would like to gather interest in Health Fair/Fitness and Bowling team.

 

Business update (Mel Taylor) – Board Retreat is July 11 from 9-4 at Hilton RTP, details coming soon, if you would like to see something specific (training, team building, etc) please see Mel or Neph; Hickory Alive will run on Friday night through the end of July and they are seeking help; camping trip and skip trip – expect CPGs in July with tubing refunds coming; Beach Trip – some interest, but Hickory is also planning one so maybe we could do a joint trip with Hickory; Holiday Ball – Tina and Shreya may be interested in chairing, looking at Cambria hotel; Reminder to have award nominations in by 4pm and encourage project chairs to nominate folks.

 

Community Fundraising update (Linnell Compton) – no report

 

Community Service update (Danny Miller) – receive 2 applications for scholarship; Clip and Save workshop is Monday; Jennifer Trivette offered to chair Fireman/Policeman banquet.

Membership Area update (Liz Gutierrez) – Analysis form to be completed by tomorrow; need to have enough responses to make it substantive; Social is coming up this Friday so don’t forget to send out email to contacts from Membership game during last board meeting; New Member Kickoff is July 19^th and we’re pulling new members as of a year ago; 4 new members in June; Gave assignments for following up on members who need to renew; Expect t-shirts for members and fun membership activities during 2^nd GMM in July.

 

Communications update (Khaner Walker) – press release for PONY went out 2 weeks ago and got some coverage; Internet campaign was approved and will begin soon; Chamber of Commerce through Young Professionals Network is having a non-profit charity/cause night and we’ll have booth workers signed up, Khaner will email out the day/time of the event; Encouraged board to Tweet/Facebook about the Raleigh Jaycees.

 

State Director update (Teresa Nichols) – Power of Pride presentation is June 28; other award nominations coming up June 29 July 3 so write them and give them to Teresa and Carter; June 30 – CPG assembly night; Hickory Alive – July 17 and we’re trying to send 5 members with carpooling being available; July 18 – CPG judging in Asheboro; NCJC executive meeting – will answer questions during call about bid for year-end convention, but we won’t know until August about whether Raleigh got the bid, much excitement about the bid Teresa has put together.

 

Treasurer update (Jennifer James) – year to date budget was emailed

 

Legal update (Michael McKnight) – nothing new to report

 

Secretary update (Mel Taylor interim) – made motion to approve May 26 meeting minutes; seconded by Khaner; no discussion.

 

New Business – motion to move to execute session; seconded by Ali Houchin.
