Raleigh Jaycees Board Meeting – Chapter                                                      February 24, 2009

Members Present: Neph Bailey, Karen Shellhorn, Allison Anderson, Linnell Compton, Teresa Nichols, Mona Shah, Carter Pettibone, Deidre Albert, Jennifer James, Lisa Rowland, Ali Houchin, Paul Hoover, Michael McKnight, Shira Easley, John Sauter, Mel Taylor, Andy Zeh, Amanda Carleski, Danny Miller, Khaner Walker, Karen Sadler, and Liz Gutierrez.

How to Social Sports INITIAL CPG – Presented by Project Chair Maggie O Neill. Shira Easley made motion to approve CPG with appropriation of $420 and revision of first date, seconded  by Mel Taylor. Comments by Shira; Glad she stepped up, sorry it hasn’t been an easy process; glad she is running project. Motion passed.

Governor Morehead Easter Celebration INITIALCPG – Presented by Lisa Rowland for Project Chair Jennifer Duke. Allison Anderson made motion to pass with an $75 appropriation from chapter. Seconded by Karen Shellhorn. Allison thanks Jen for presenting on her behalf, is looking forward to attend event. Motion passed.

Area Updates:

Committee Appointments – Mel, Deidre, and Khaner appointed to the Development Committee. Phil Rau appointed to Policies and Bylaws Committee

Ways and Means Update (Ali Houchin) – Not much to report; Heather is working on PONY committee and diving into details; looking for committee members still; send to Heather; still searching for Project Chair for Turkey Shoot and Mini TS; let Karen, Andy,  or Ali know. We will be going over Adam’s resume for the Haunted House next month.

Business Area Update (Mel Taylor) - Winter Excursion wrapping up in March, still getting in $$. Painting party on Sunday;, Adam breaking down office on Thursday night. Nobody on board, ask members to help. Painting Party from 10-3pm with free lunch for anyone who can commit two hours. Everyone who is on board is encouraged to go to director training at Carter’s office on Fayetteville Street. We would love to have everyone at training. Still looking for camping trip chair, no one is interested now, asked a ton of people.

            Webmaster Update (Ed Blackman) - New CPG uploading tool; went over basics of uploading CPGs from www.raleighjaycees.org.  revisions were in box so everyone knows what they are looking for; seems really simple to use; CPGs should be sent out before the board meeting, so that everyone has time to look at it; read it within two days and send feedback; directors can send feedback to project chair; makes project chairs feel more secure about presenting; if anyone isn’t comfortable with it, please let Mel know. Send out revised CPG look to send it out the first time, he is still playing around with it so people can see it without getting another attachment; looking for feedback; finds these activities fun to do, make changes only when he knows that it is needed; tool being reminded for VPs to send files to website so it will upload; VPs job to upload CPGs that go into library.

Membership Update (Mona Shah) – not doing Meet up anymore; if anyone asks we are not doing it. We are struggling this month; 5 new members, 3 out of 11 renewals this month. Membership social at humble pie this Friday; project activation is up and running; two networking events a month; January someone joined; Liz and Erin going to meet business minded professionals; working on a thermometer to gauge numbers so everyone can see. Jaycee week; October, Jaycee Anniversary; April 20th. Planning on an exciting happening for national volunteer week and our anniversary.  Refund renewal checks have all gone out except for two. Ali  Houchin recently deposited checks. If anyone gets checks, they go through Mona first, then Jennifer.

Individual Development Update (Karen Sadler) – Culture Club coming up, March. 4th; $8 at Total Wine; Continuation of professional series about unemployment, 29th, Softball/football? Impact leadership conference April 4th presenter is being done, but is a separate function; only 16 slots available; register through JCI website so we get credit nationally; LEAD and PRIME training replacement; Leadership part of it can’t do presenter, only $20 for members. Social sports are getting a new date for bowling as soon as we get it.

Community Fundraising Update (Linnell Compton) – No report

Community Service Update (Allison Anderson) – looking for scholarship committee chair; any ideas for project chairs; can set own schedule. Looking for new project ideas; not tied out to anything; new projects; Sue Scott chairing ID/CF/CS on coupons for overseas soldiers, Sarah Hardesty came up with a good idea; convert dollars that we got from Goodfellows; gave some to us and others to Susan Brosnan enough towels and washcloths welcome baskets for the girls home, toiletries for rest of year for girls home.  Fuel drive wrapping up next month.

Communications Update (Khaner Walker)– busy month; thanks to Paul Hoover for tracking media; Triangle Business Journal; News and Observer for yearend awards; revised some materials for Mona for 2009 sending orders in on sun. Same thing for Mel for blank card with Jaycee logo. Raleigh Hall of Fame application went in; we are in good standing; good for two years; contact put good word in for us.

State Director Update (Teresa Nichols) – not a lot of things to report; motion about ye convention; let Teresa know if you are interested in attending; girls from Girls Home will be moving in middle of March.

Treasurer Update (Jennifer James)- check in box; let know if she needs to come to office more than once a week to pick up checks to send out.

Legal Council Update (Michael McKnight) – nothing to report

Secretary Update (Amanda Carleski) – made motion to approve minutes from January; motion passed. Amanda will be resigning for board due to time commitments between work and school.

New Business

Teresa makes motion for appropriation of $800 and $1,000 for boarding to be divided up among general members for Yearend convention in Florida; seconded by Liz. Discussion; line item for budget to help subsidize money to help members go to ye convention; only person that gets paid fully is Paul Hoover since he was president last year. Motion passed.

Old Business – None
